Island Basement Systems is a full service basement waterproofing, crawl space repair, and radon mitigation company dedicated to providing solutions for warm, dry, and healthy environments to residents of Vancouver Island, British Columbia.
As president of Island Basement Systems, Chris has been in the business since 1993.
He and his team have fixed more than 4,000 homes located on Vancouver Island, the Gulf Islands, and the Greater Whistler area. They are also active in their local community through participation with Our Place Society and by helping their local Community Hall with upgrades and roof repairs.

Island Basement Systems Community Involvement
Our office and shop is in a rural location, and we do what we can to be good stewards of the land we use, and our community. When we can, we’re helping with the renovations to the local community hall.
The owner, Chris Schmidt, is an entrepreneur at heart. Island Basement Systems has been donating to Kiva (a micro-lending charity) for over 5 years now, helping other entrepreneurs around the world lead better lives.
Sponsoring the local Lacrosse kids team, of which our GM, Peter, also coaches.
The Little Things
Each year, we mix up our community involvement. This year, our focus is to have all members of IBS help out in small but important ways:
- In our office we have boxes for clothing and food donations
- IBS sponsors volunteer days: we have a sign up sheet for volunteering at one of our designated charities. IBS will provide 50% of wages for every day donated by a staff member.
- For 2014, we will donate $20 to a charity organization for every CleanSpace® job
